We can all be thankful for the internet during boring times like these. There’s a worldwide web of live streaming events waiting to entertain us without ever having to step outside. Don’t spend another weekend wondering what to do and find an event online to experience.   

Concerts

Thanks to streaming, quite a few acts are broadcasting live shows frequently. You can be serenaded by John Legend on a piano or dance the night away with DJ D-Nice. Here are some upcoming shows you won't want to miss:  

Zak Abel - British pop star Zak Abel performs daily impromptu concerts from his home. Watch them on his Instagram here 

Miley Cyrus - Miley Cyrus’s show Bright Minded is a hit on Instagram. She broadcasts daily Monday to Friday at 11:30 a.m.  

Diplo - LA-based DJ and producer Diplo will be performing live sets for you almost every day of the week. You can watch him either on his Saturday night Coronight Fever series (11 p.m.) or his A Very Lazer Sunday show at 4 p.m. For all these rave-filled events, you can watch on his YouTube channel. 

DJ Zeke Thomas - DJ Zeke Thomas currently plays on Instagram Live as well. Catch his show every day from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  

Movie Streaming Communities

You might not be able to go to a movie theatre, but a laptop, a group of friends, and some savoury snacks can fix that. There are quite a few websites to watch movies online with a community of people sharing a screen. Chat with strangers from websites like Netflix Party or gather the gang and set up a Facetime call instead. Try some of these websites and apps as well:

Comedy Shows

Staying indoors can be a downer sometimes. Try to get some laughter in with some of the internet’s funniest stand-up and sketch comedians. Comics like Noah Findling and Meg Stalter are sharing hilarious content on Instagram. There are also many podcasts and comedy shows with hosts that are still recording. Some upcoming shows to watch include: 

Lyric Public Access - Since the Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe in Los Angeles closed its doors, their Instagram has been airing daily live shows featuring comedians all over the internet.  

Denver Comedy Lounge - The Denver Comedy Lounge hosts a live comedy series called “Its 5’oclock somewhere” on Instagram. Watch it on weekdays at 5 p.m. 

Virtual Film Festivals

Exercise your inner film critic while you’re at it. Try watching some newly released films at a virtual film festival. You can buy a virtual pass to certain events that are still ongoing that allow you to view the content online.  

SPLIFF Film Festival  Experience the vibes and kick back with some classic films at the SPLIFF Film Festival. The tickets to the on-demand streaming event starts at $10 and give you access to their whole catalogue of films.

Online streaming parties are becoming the new nightclub. There’s no waiting in line, scary security guards, and there's no need to dress up. Put on your favourite pair of pyjamas, charge your phone, and dance the night away with some of these upcoming parties:
